When diffused in the air, Clove offers a warm invitation, sweetly encouraging good digestion and a relaxed, uplifted mood. Clove is not only one of the most powerful antioxidants, it also is an effective microbicide, and therefore is utilized to disinfect the air and surfaces it is applied to. With these effects combined, it is great to burn while preparing for a gathering of people.
Clove works to clear up heavy congestion, both mentally and physically, and is used to improve memory. It can also assist in bolstering self-awareness, processing suppressed emotions. Burning a clove oil candle might be just the thing if you feel creatively blocked and out of touch with your true self; alternatively, you might just have a lot of mucus in your lungs that you’d like to clear up!
This state of being can be attributed to excess kapha (the Ayurvedic dosha that represents the elements of water & earth). When there is an excess of these elements in the body, it obstructs the flow of Vata (air & the space in which it moves). Imagine a seed trying to grow in heavy clay soil that is not draining properly. You can apply that analogy to multiple systems in your body. Clove essential oil is the pitchfork and compost that breaks up and warms the clay, letting the air and water move better so that your roots can grow.
Energetics: While mostly on the “hot” end of the spectrum, its sweetness adds a soothing element as well. Clove is very beneficial for reducing excess Vata and Kapha. Or if you prefer, it can really warm up yin. It’s not the best option for excess yang/pitta states of mind.
Bottom Line: Tell your obstacles it’s time to move on!
